A chronological guide to navigating CLTC-ID through different stages of life. Select a life stage below to learn about common features and management strategies. Every individual's journey is unique — use these guidelines as a starting point for conversations with your medical and educational team.
A note on individual variation: CLTC-ID is caused by many different variants in the CLTC gene. Missense variants (amino-acid changes) tend to be associated with higher rates of epilepsy (~80%) and microcephaly, while truncating variants (nonsense or frameshift) show lower epilepsy rates (~20%) but can produce significant intellectual and behavioral features. Your child's specific variant may influence their presentation — ask your clinical geneticist for details about your variant type.
